Keshia is a self taught chef and lover of food and culture. To celebrate the diverse culinary landscape of her Caribbean heritage she launched Caribe’.
October
The Beginning
1991
Her love of food started from young. Sitting at the table after school, watching granddad peel vegetables and grandma at the stove planted this tiny seed which started her obsession with food. She loved her Caribbean culture at home but saw how inaccessible and under represented it was in the food scene.
The Caribbean is a melting pot. Each island is an evolution of culture due to the mass migration and settlement from multiple nations. This is reflected through its food, making the cuisine dynamic, yet somewhat unexplored.
London
Pop up shop
2018
After visiting a number of islands over the years, Keshia used this as inspiration and motivation to share the culture she enjoyed on her travels in the food scene here in the UK.
Following the completion of her food studies degrees, Keshia decided to start her first food venture. In 2018 Caribe’ was born as a pop up, which later turned into a kitchen takeover and long tern residency in numerous spaces around London.
Brixton
A New Challenge
2019
Finally, Caribe' found its home in Brixton - celebrating Caribbean eating all year round.
Caribe and Keshia have grown on a simultaneous journey. The menu at Caribe’ is always changing as Keshia uses this as a space to share a range of dishes from the islands. At the same time, researching Caribbean food culture has allowed Keshia to develop a deeper understanding of her heritage and food traditions.
